Rachel Naughtin
Director of Choral Activities
Lawrence High School

Since moving to Lawrence in 2013 Rachel has become an active performer and educator in the area. She is currently the Director of Choral Activities at Lawrence High School—it's a great day to be a lion! Mrs. Naughtin was the choir director/vocal music teacher at Baldwin Junior High and High Schools in Baldwin City, KS, USD 348 from 2020-2025, and she previously taught elementary general music in Lawrence and Topeka. Mrs. Naughtin was selected as Baldwin's Secondary Teacher of the Year for the 2024-2025 school year. She was also the 2023 recipient of the Northeast Kansas Music Educators Association's (NEKMEA) Outstanding High School Choir Director award, and she is the chair of the NEKMEA High School District Choir. Rachel also loves music directing and teaching at the Lawrence Arts Center, and cultivating a thriving private voice studio has been one of her greatest joys. Rachel is a member of Vox Nova Chamber Choir and Tallgrass Chamber Choir. She has also performed locally with Te Deum Chamber Choir, Lawrence Opera Theatre, Kansas City Opera Institute, and the Kansas City Chorale. In 2013 Rachel completed a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance at the University of Missouri where she was also a voice teaching assistant. She earned a Bachelor of Music degree with majors in Vocal Performance and Choral/General Music Education from Lawrence University Conservatory of Music in Appleton, WI in 2011. In addition to her studies at Lawrence Rachel was a member of the College Light Opera Company (Falmouth, MA) in summer 2010 and attended the Bel Canto Institute in Florence, Italy in summer 2009. Rachel thoroughly enjoys collaborating with her colleagues and serving our wonderful Northeast region! Extra special thanks to her family for their love and support!
